Success?? Successful

Thomas read some article posted online asking what does successful in life means to you?

Some said happy and contented, some have x amount of money by x age....so much more.
Those who said to be contented with what you have now? Are u really contended ?

But what is it to u?

Its a modern conundrum. You can't have it both ways, happiness and success.

Time saved by technology just means more work for you, not time for leisure.

Career advancement?
"Where do you see yourself in five years' time?"
"Assuming more responsibilites."
"Okie, here's a bucketful of responsibilities for you to choke on for the same shit pay."

Love sucks. But we're forced to want to have some because we're human.

Same deal with food. You're forced to eat because you're hungry.

Job satisfaction? Nobody has ever been happy in a job they first obtained by handing in a resume.

Your call is important to us - Your money is important to us. Its not about money, its about principle - Okie!

Kids? A baby can't tell you a joke. A child just complicates your life. Almost any teenager deserve a smack in the mouth. And as an adult, they're more likely to grow up as a Joey Tan Chye Kong instead of... Gandhi? But, the real tragedy is that they're not supporting you in your old age because they won't, its because they can't afford to.

Artificial economies. Real Estate Investment Trusts. Debentures. Bonds. Junk bonds. Compounded interest rates. Debt consolidation.

Nobody wants to work anymore. Because an honest day's work does not mean an honest day's wages. Either you sling crack or have a wicked jump shot.

Yeah well, its a skewed opinion (and a long one :p sorry). Its not all doom and gloom. I'm just saying the doom and gloom overshadows our sunny skies, to the point that if you look at the person next to yourself, they're most likely struggling for survival or if they're not; they're just engaging in pursuits that perpetuate this doomy and gloomy cycle.

I wanna continue yammering but, I'm afraid people would stop reading. So yeah, success for me would be the day I give up everything :) My possessions, my loved one, my nicotine dependancy, and my alcohol addiction. Then, when I have truly given up everything... I shall have everything.

I hope :)

Hey hey dude,

i am back.

so success is not equal to happiness?

nirvana?

In fact i was talking to another guy, he said the same things as he would be contented with what he has now and be happy about his "relax" job. But he complains about the low wages that he is given.

Human are just never gonna be content with what they have. Yet they do not want to get what they want.
My point to that person if you are happy with your job because is super duper relax then be it, stop complaining that you are not well paid. On the other hand, he does not want to put in more effort to change a job or "do OT for his industry" .

Life is just a jigsaw puzzle......

I realised we are similar yet different. The one that u knew is gone. Thomas not goh, but gone.

Leave it to the next post. Trying to cultivate some emotion to write the next one.. is hard .. >.<

Cheers

Success can be defined in a broad number of ways, and so can happiness. The hard thing for most of us with expectations or responsibilities is to reconcile success with happiness.

I was deeply moved by the movie Wall Street where the young stock broker accused his father of being jealous of his financial achievements; to which the father replied, "What you see is a man who never measured his success by the size of his WALLET!"

And another old soul (who emigrated to Australia) once said, "When you have secured your basic necessities, happiness is how you define it."

But I think we're all at the stage where we're living from paycheck to paycheck, so... I think happiness is still quite far away for us.

Which brings me to my previous posts, regarding the economy and financial system and such. I mean, Jesus Christ, what the hell are we all working for?
The people who create the most value, ie construction and factory workers, farmers, and researchers earn next to nothing while people who create insignificant capital gains or neglible progress for mankind, ie investment bankers, stock brokers (formerly), auditors, lawyers, athletes and celebrities get the top of the share.
Anyways, 1% of the world's population owns 55% of the world's wealth, as of 2007. What the fuck is this?

So what we're all working for is this perpetual cycle of disparity of wealth, of which we're barely able to sustain ourselves within a Singaporean context.

Look at it. Exploitation of China and India meant suppressed wages for them since the early 1800's. When China and India exploded in the 2000's, it meant increased wages for them and depressed wages for us, though its not their fault. Its the exploitation by the big money men in the first place. And if Africa gets their shit together, it means a bigger redistribution of wealth for the common man. But guess who stays at the top.

By the way, I was drinking in a pub one day, and next to me was a guy from Belgium all by himself. So we talked, and one thing he said that stuck in my mind was, "You know, the biggest thing I'm surprised about in Singapore is the number of staff in any store. In Belgium, wages are so high that shops can only afford one staff at any time."
This is of course, in addition to other stuff he told me about Belgium like how everything is cheap (adjusted for wages) and that people over there have more fun. (My god, an European saying Singapore is expensive!) Which kinda reminds me of a China man saying something to the effect of "I admire Singapore, but I don't envy it."

So that leaves us to where we're neither here nor there. Perhaps we gotta find our vocation (I sure as hell haven't found mine.) Or perhaps we just gotta run away, like I'm planning to. All I know is I'm counting down my days to running a scuba booth in Thailand but even then, Thailand's gonna be like Singapore in 20 year's time.

Crap. Nirvana is the only way.

I shall make this short and sweet; I'd like to think that happiness is being successful at being happy.
